In the late 1990s, naturopath Albert Hesse was looking for a probiotic containing many bacterial strains—he couldn’t find one, so he developed Pro EM san himself, a fermented herbal and plant extract containing 31 lactic acid cultures, which remains one of TISSO’s most successful products to this day. Since 1999, TISSO has been synonymous with high-quality dietary supplements that combine natural ingredients with scientific expertise.
TISSO - WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
It all began with a naturopath and a few billion gut bacteria: In the late 1990s, Albert Hesse, a naturopath from the Sauerland region, was searching for a good probiotic for his patients that contained as wide a variety of bacterial strains as possible.
Unable to find what he was looking for, he decided to develop a multi-species preparation himself: Pro EM san, a naturally fermented herbal and plant extract containing 31 carefully combined lactic acid bacteria cultures. With this formula—which remains essential to this day—Albert Hesse founded the company TISSO in 1999.
Today, TISSO specializes in the development and manufacture of high-quality natural dietary supplements. The product line currently includes about 60 formulations, which are produced locally in Wenden and distributed internationally.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE COMBINATION
Nature doesn't provide single-ingredient supplements. Neither do we. Whether it’s microorganisms for the gut, plant extracts, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids, or vitamins—our formulations combine nutrients just as nature does: in a way that allows them to optimally support and enhance one another. Not only the individual ingredients, but also the formulations themselves are optimally balanced within our nutritional concept.

Nature is our source of raw materials. After all, nature simply provides the best ingredients. We use only certified, low-allergen raw materials, which are regularly tested in external laboratories for microbiological contamination as well as for heavy metals, insecticides, pesticides, fungicides, and radioactivity. This ensures the highest possible purity and naturalness for all our products—and, consequently, safety for our customers.
TISSO products contain neither genetically modified raw materials nor any other harmful substances. In addition, we do not use artificial additives such as preservatives, sweeteners, flavorings, or flavor enhancers, nor do we use gluten. Our PET product packaging is regularly tested and manufactured by our contract partners. It contains no phthalates or other plasticizers.
Using our state-of-the-art production technology, we process the raw materials as gently as possible to preserve their natural properties. We also ensure that the ingredients have high bioavailability—so your body can get the most out of our products.

Stefan Springer, M.D.
Dr. Stefan Springer, M.D., is a board-certified specialist in general medicine and orthopedics and has also earned qualifications in several naturopathic disciplines. At his practice in Regensburg, he combines conventional medicine with complementary diagnostic and therapeutic methods. As an experienced practitioner, he regularly gives lectures on alternative healing methods.

All from our own culture collection: To ensure that we can always guarantee the highest quality and safety for our microorganism preparations, we maintain our own bacterial culture collection in Wenden. Highly specialized professionals are responsible for the cultivation and maintenance of these cultures. All bacterial strains are regularly genotyped so that we can ensure their consistent properties.

LET'S GET RID OF IT: HIGH-QUALITY, ALL-PLANT-BASED CAPSULES
We offer a large portion of our products in capsule form because capsules are generally the optimal dosage form for our nutrient combinations—and because their production requires very few technical excipients and additives.
Just so you know what you're taking: We use high-quality, well-tolerated capsules made from plant-based cellulose (HPMC) or pullulan, and we deliberately avoid carrageenan, polyethylene glycol (PEG), and other unnecessary or questionable ingredients.

That’s why we use green electricity, rely on water from our own rainwater cistern, and have our catalog and promotional materials printed on eco-friendly recycled paper.
We also use raw materials that are as sustainable as possible for our product packaging: Our “Pro EM san” bottles are already made from 100% recycled PET, and we are currently in the process of switching our PET cans entirely to recycled material as well.

Trees are nature’s climate protectors: They produce oxygen, filter CO2 from the air, and use their roots to protect the soil from erosion. Together with Treedom, a global environmental organization, we’re planting new trees in Kenya, Nepal, and Colombia: With 300 fruit and timber trees in our own TISSO Forest, we offer small farmers in a region particularly affected by climate change and deforestation a guaranteed source of agricultural income—while simultaneously offsetting 68,000 kg of carbon dioxide. In the coming years, the TISSO Forest will continue to grow with our support.
